...so I sat and nibbled myself instead."
I was going to put this in the Mixed Media category, as it is done with watercolour pencils and photoshop, although i still had to chose either "Traditional" or "Digital" work... kinda besides the point really. I have been sitting on this for a while now, it started off as a doodle that i quite liked, which i developed and eventually drew out, coloured and scanned. Then it sat on my desktop for about a month, occasionally when i had time i opened it up and did a bit of work on it... so i'm pleased to finally see it complete Most of the time i spent working on it was masking out the original white background, so that all the edges were nice and crisp - i do tend to get pretty obsessive about my work sometimes I fancied doing something a bit more stylised for a change, most of the work i have been doing recently has still been stylised, but not so much as this, it has lost a bit of that "cartoony" (for lack of a better word) look to it. I think the emotions behind this are fairly obvious, its more or less saying "I lost my appetite for life" as in getting fed up with your situation, waiting for a change and looking for something new. You know when you kinda get that Zombie-like feeling, not depressed but just miserable i guess, like your not properly awake? Yeah? Well thats the emotion behind this... ok so maybe not that clear! And the "so i sat and nibbled at myself instead" part is where you feel like something is eating away at you, and you can see if its yourself or not... oh dear, sorry thats a bit confusing! But i'm sure there will be someone who gets it/can relate to it! Like a lot of my work i guess its a bit autobiographical, sometimes i wish i could just speed up, stop or delete parts of life... just like Sky+ haha! Ok so no reference used here what-so-ever! The image was drawn completely from my head with no pose/technique references. However! Looking at it now it reminds me of some of the lovely Miss Glittersniffer's work, i think the darker style and combination of traditional with digital background, as i'm sure some of you will agree? So, if you have not seen her work before i will point you in the right direction I think thats all to say about this particular piece, sorry about the essay of a description! Oh yeah, watch this space as i will be turning it into a t-shirt design in the near future... ------------------------------------------------------ Original by Emma Black A3 Watercolour Pencil drawing + digital. i squee-d when i saw your name in my inbox. <3 i can see tegan's influence, but you've definitely got your own flair about it. I LOVEEEE her avant garde outfit, and the purple and greens were a brilliant color choice! i really can't get over those lightning bolts, they stand out so well. there's loads of beautiful little details for the viewer to appreciate, like the zombie-esque hand and the drippy lacing. the shading overall came out fantastic, especially in her dress and face.
i can really relate to the message behind this piece; i've been into trying new things lately...it's always fun to shake things up a bit. -- 10, 9, 8 and I'm breaking away. I'm all dressed up and ready to play. You need my plasma more than I do Thank you
